Pune pitch gets poor rating from ICC match referee

ICC match referee Chris Broad has given a "poor" rating to the pitch that was used in the first Test between India and Australia in Pune, where the game ended inside three days in favour of the visitors. The report has been forwarded to the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), which now has 14 days to respond, said the ICC in a statement. It was an unexpected result for the series-opener with Australia hammering India by 333 runs, ending the formidable hosts' 19-match unbeaten run. "Broad, in accordance with Clause 3 of the ICC Pitch and Outfield Monitoring Process, submitted his report to the ICC in which he expressed concern over the quality of the pitch," read the statement further. The BCCI's response will be reviewed by ICC's General Manager (Cricket), Geoff Allardice, and Ranjan Madugalle from the elite panel of ICC match referees. It is not the first time that an Indian pitch has attracted negative feedback from the match referee.

India cricketer Parvez Rasool has finally spoken over the chewing gum controversy and appealed trolls to keep cricketers away from politics The Jammu and Kashmir cricketer came under sharp criticism over social media for insulting the National Anthem during first T20 International between India and England in Kanpur, on January 26. Cricket fans were irked with the all-rounder after he was caught chewing gum on camera while the rest of the Indian Team and people in cricket stadium were standing in attention as the National Anthem was being played. Rasool was quoted by ETV as saying, "Let cricketers play cricket and don't involve them into politics unnecessarily. I try to keep my focus on the game and don't let these controversies affect me. It is already very difficult for cricketers from our region to make it into the national team and when these things happen it is very disheartening. One has to remain tough and should not give importance to such controversies.&q
